Welcome to the October series of the Worth Listening Podcast! This month we’re focusing on all things real estate.

Today’s guest is Andrew Kerr here to share his Money Memoir with us. Andrew is the founder of FI by REI (Financial Independence by Real Estate Investing). He is the director of a nonprofit and world traveler by day and a serial house hacker and real estate investor by night.

Andrew has an incredible story when it comes to real estate investing. He started his career in the real estate industry but gave up a six-figure income in order to pursue a life he enjoyed and work he cared about focused on working with nonprofits. He quickly learned that the financial gap between the two careers was a big one, but  instead of switching jobs to chase the dollar, he continued doing what he loves working with nonprofits while gaining financial independence through real estate investing.

Today Andrew will share with us more about his REI journey.

In This Episode We Discuss:

  • How he managed to transition from a six-figure income to living on a $20k salary
  • The difference that having financial conversations can make
  • The difference between house hacking, active real estate investing, and passive investing
  • What to look for when starting to invest in real estate passively
  • Why House Hacking is a great way to get started in REI
  • For those of you want to connect with Andrew, you can find him at www.FIbyREI.com.

And if you are interested in learning more about House Hacking, Andrew wrote a great guide called The Ultimate Guide to House Hacking. Then his show, The House Hacking Podcast has a ton of great case studies of individuals that have done a house hack.
